How to use PDF tools

Prepare your content

Choose an unlocked PDF under the displayed size limit. Extract selectable text directly; scanned pages need the OCR language that matches the document. Start with a copy of the original so you can compare your results. Use files and content you have permission to process. Make sure the source is readable and the file type matches the tool’s accepted formats. A smaller file is usually quicker on a phone, while a clean source improves the usefulness of the final output.

Choose settings and preview

Processing takes place on your device. OCR models load on first use, so a slow connection can make the initial extraction take longer than later work. Change one setting at a time and review its effect. On mobile, controls stack into a single column; use the preview shortcuts where available to avoid unnecessary scrolling. Wait for the current operation to finish before starting another. If the page shows a progress message, keep the browser tab open until it completes.

Save and check the result

Copy or download text after checking it, or export an editable Word document. Page breaks are retained where possible, but original PDF graphics and complex layouts are not reconstructed. Open the downloaded file to check its contents rather than relying only on the preview. On iPhone, a browser may offer an Open or Share action instead of saving directly into the photo library. Save to Files when appropriate, and choose a filename that helps you find the result later. Download behaviour can vary between Safari, Chrome and Edge.

Get help with a problem

If a tool cannot finish, read its error message and try a smaller, clearer source or an updated browser. Do not refresh during an active export unless you are prepared to re-enter unsaved changes. Report persistent problems through Contact & report, including the tool name, device, browser and the steps that caused the issue. Avoid sending identity documents, passwords or other private records in a support report. Optional analytics settings remain under your control in the privacy page.
